Ain’t Gonna

You ain’t gonna take it away.
You ain’t gonna take it away.
Not what’s nestled in my heart.

Time allows fluctuations
in all our situations. Daily do-s.
Yes, we have those now.
Consider time’s actions—
a swing, a sway, a tilt, a sting,
a twist, a turn, a change, a rearrange.
A halt, a chance, no chance, a flit,
a fray, an exit, decay, an intro, the end.

A better day is on its way? On its way?
That’s what we’re told. It’s what words say.

You ain’t gonna take it away.
You ain’t gonna take it away—
not what’s nestled in my heart.

In time’s
swerves and curves
with holds and let-gos
the sun may rise
the sun may set
giving us a day
we’ve not lived yet.
Goodness in this day
seals truth covering souls.
No way. No trade needed.

You ain’t gonna take it away.
You ain’t gonna take it away.

Farewell, Michael. Good luck in your next writing adventures. Take care. The Pub days have been grand! We all know & appreciate that simple truth. God bless & keep you, Michael.
