Remembering You (The Peaceful Pub)

Remembering You
Dedicated to The Peaceful Pub

How do I love you?
I can’t count the ways.
I can’t count times
day or night you’ve been
there, through the years
season after season,
through porch-light hours
welcoming the writer-in-me.
You’ve been there
all along for so long
catching my rhymes,
herding my verses
line by line.
How do I love you?
I can’t count the ways.

All numbers exit now
since I can’t count the ways.
Infinity settles in reverently
where counting counts.
I recall memories, old and new,
where writers shared their works.
Soon we, Pub writers, meet The Pub’s final day.
Final? It almost takes my breath away;
yet, we all have something to take with us.
How fortunate we are to have had our Pub,
a place which gave so much to each member.

Look back. She did it every time.
She left the lights on—
a gift given for full welcome.
Thank you, Sarah. Thank you.
You mean the world to this community.

Look inside your heart before you go.
It’s there. You’ll feel warmth every time.
Our Pub’s reflected light never leaves.

Look forward. Keep the porch light on
for someone somewhere may need that.

Oh, Pub, how do we do this?
I’m not sure how.
How do I love you?
I can’t count the ways.
Infinity reminds me though;
this kind of love lingers.
It knows not how to exit.
It stays; it never goes.

The Peaceful Pub,
our honorable gathering spot online,
did it right—
with the porch light on
day or night. Day or night.

So with tomorrow’s closure,
what do we do
as we wave final waves?

Think of that light. Lean that way.
Anchor to peace and hope.
Gather and scatter poems.
Pub Writers, with inspiration
nestled in our hearts
more writing awaits; we’ve been given
a gift—a lifetime membership—to
keep on giving through writing.
We gave our writings to The Peaceful Pub.
The Peaceful Pub gave us special times.
The Peaceful Pub taught us how to share.
We can give. We can take. We can give again.

Will the last reader here do a favor?
Please leave the porch light on.

Dearest Peaceful Pub,
Thank you for some wonderful years, ones never to be forgotten.
In our hearts you will always shine and reflect light. Forever. Always.
Our Pub, hats off to you and with an online-standing ovation: You did it right!
