Drum Solo

The television struggles vainly to be heard:
we are maybe catching every other word.
It’s drowned out by the intense thrumming of the rain
on the roof, the walls, the door, and the windowpane.
Each element contributes a different sound;
we’re an audience with the drum kit all around.

  1. Hi Michael

    This is superb in both its metaphor and sound. Love the feeling of these lines

    t’s drowned out by the intense thrumming of the rain
    on the roof, the walls, the door, and the windowpane.
    Each element contributes a different sound;”

    I have been that scene, haunted by the rain’s tempo and invigorating presence. A well-written poem indeed!

    Thank you!
    Wendy
