Desert Trek

Transcending trainees

venerate our trio

awed by its regal mystery,

repressing new passions

in arid nausea,

hiking duality trails with camels

and bearded earthly kings,

conversing Bedouin, ethics,

monogamy, time journeys

by association.

We sip kava, quietly laugh,

at this our evening entourage

and their youthful dialect …

then a pause, gasps,

as the trail brightens

silver with the Star.

The Magus points west.

Myrrh is in the air.

Craig,

Miracles all around us..

“conversing Bedouin, ethics,

monogamy, time journeys

by association.”

…and no matter what we’re doing,
those miracles find us.

That must have been some awesome night!

Hi Craig

As usual your poem is crafted with precise detail and a voice conveys impact. I like how this modern journey
is paralled with the past one, the miraculous one. And also, how the travelers are suddenly awed by the sacredness of their surroundings and the realization that they are in the midst of a recurring glory/history. Beautifully Done!

Much enjoyed,
Wendy
