Grief’s Lullaby

IMG_2801

When the heart is heavy,
yet wraps around my being
like a blanket during times of grief,
I cling to loneliness in silence.

Oh, Heart,
beat for me,
beat for me,
Carry me through
Like only you can do

When the mind releases
struggles of comprehending
the whys of loss,
I return to a burdened heart.

Oh, Heart,
beat for me,
beat for me,
Carry me through
Like only you can do

When the soul quietens to listen,
there is no fight. I listen. I do.
I look to that which pulls me through.
Oh, Heart, in these dark days, I see only you.

Oh, Heart,
beat for me,
beat for me,
Carry me through
Like only you can do

Slowly I hum along and sway
with grief’s callous cradlesong
blending tomorrows’ sorrows today,
all is renamed, redefined, remade.

Oh, Heart,
beat for me,
beat for me,
Carry me through
Like only you can do

Carry me through
Like only you can do

  1. Thank you. It’s real. A nearby area lost their well-loved sheriff suddenly yesterday. The loss just hurts.
Grief makes us all ache to the core.

    • Michael, thank you for reading & commenting. Loss is difficult to accept. We struggle to accept its harshness as loved ones aren’t around anymore.
