In one of my earliest memories I am in a park, it is summertime, and I am chasing a squirrel. I want to hold it and pet it, but the squirrel is staying just out of my reach. Eventually, it scampered up a tree and that was the end of the chase and of my memory.

  1. Hi Michael

This is such a delightful poem, filled with joy and the spirit of Summer. I can feel the lively energy in this one and think that last line is perfect with ” a giggling child chases. It leaves the reader following that child into a moment of exploration and fun.

    So nicely done!!
    My best,

    • Thank you Wendy. I appreciate the compliment. I sometimes wonder at the things which get imprinted in our memory. I remember being absolutely sure that I could catch that squirrel.

    • Thank you Sarah. Two compliments so quickly, wow! I have often wondered why that squirrel did not just run off and climb a tree. Perhaps he was accustomed to people tossing treats to him.
