Apéritif

Great art is inspired

by the sub-conscious,

she nonchalantly mused,

lying naked on

the pink comforter,

sipping Pastis and water,

head propped on her palms,

a tiny glowing sphinx,

reading poems

with Cleopatra lips.

I half listen,

knowing the words,

knees at her waist,

molding child-like

cleavages with id,

tracing illusions in

firm, tan sand of spine.

    Craig,

I have always called you the Philosopher Poet, and Apéritif serves to prove that again.

This poem has depth and soul. I think you write nothing lightly.

So glad to be reading your work here.

What a creative image that really underscores the theme and idea of this poem —
“that great art is inspired by the subconscious.”. You vividly capture the image of this woman and how her stance alone is art, her presence relaxed and yet lounging in the creative perspective of the observer ‘s mind. She subtly evokes poetry and I very much enjoyed reading this.

    thank you for sharing,
