With Thanks to Katherine for the inspiration…

Sighs
for the slender foot
curled outward from a leg
noted for its curve,

For the back
with subtle arch
above the seat
amply padded

and wide enough
to be comfortable.
Ah, this
is a form

for monarchs
and lords
and for the matching
table made by Chippendale.

This little ditty won’t make sense unless you have read

  1. Hi Sarah

Loved the article and agree with totally on the nature and meaning of a poem, its purpose and texture. And this inspiration poem is marvelous. The chair is more than a chair, it becomes the seat of comfort, presence, and a soul that gives it character and a soul of its own. Love how you subtly personify this piece of furniture —

and yes,, a guardian of time and place, even legacy.
    So well Done!!

    Thank you,
    Wendy
