When orders take you
to the front line and
you never return,
we hold memory high.
Longingly we watch
flags ride raging winds
in the home of the brave.
Our rising emotions
ride those same winds
season after season
at the mere mention
of your precious name,
in switch of seasons,
on any named holiday.
We reflect on
limitless love and
a lingering loss,
such a confusing cup,
empty and full.
When orders take you
to the front line and
you never return, we sob.
In saddest gratitude,
we hold memory high.
You have said it all, Jan…all that matters.
Lovely and touching.
Wishing you a blessed Memorial Day.

Because of inclement weather our school district’s calendar changed which affected Memorial Day’s schedule. We work today. I’m certain some students will not attend school today because of family plans. Blessings today, Sarah, to you.

I’m sorry you have to work, Jan,
but it is clear you carry the celebration in your heart. Brava!
