A Song of Peace

Stir not in a dizzy spin if it is peace you are in.

Watch. Listen. See and hear.
Tiny feet and beak on bark.
Hark! Herald the song of peace.

Watch. Listen. See and hear.
Church bells resounding familiar tunes.
Hark! Herald the song of peace.

Watch. Listen. See and hear.
Train’s whistle tracking its predictable course.
Hark! Herald the song of peace.

Watch. Listen. See and hear.
Flicking tail of a relaxed feline
stretched out on porch slats—Ah, that cat—

closing eyes perhaps to recall the good
in moments of seasonal bliss, in times of rest.
Hark! Herald the song of peace.

I notice more than twice
subtle reminders
from a busy bird, a tolling bell,

the traveling train, the dozing cat,
and my nostaligic heart teetering
between much happiness and

twinges of a longing’s sadness.

These reminders convince me
once and again of life’s best blend.

Stir not in a dizzy spin if it is peace you are in.
