A Brief Flash, then Darkness

As I sit waiting
for daylight
the abatement of headache
or a visitation
from a missing muse
I realize
that even though time flies
you can not rush it
there’s more to this
I’m sure
but the clock is ticking
loudly
the night
has become a relentless syncopation
of pulse and chime
there is no hint of dawn
I relinquish this attempt
to the possibility
of dream
