One Day by Willowdown and trinimade

Blood is spilt

the Rose endures

somewhere on some far-off shore

the fighting will all be finished

and war will be no more…

Spirits broken

Lives are destroyed,

Families are torn apart;

If man would only understand,

Peace begins in each heart.

Some poet once wrote

“The Circle is Unbroken”

but the war-machines care little

for human or divine geometry,

trampling human flesh with the cold intellect

of dictators and soul-less bureaucrats

who only care for power and profit

No time now for pointing fingers

The world needs heroes who will

Stand fearlessly for what is right.

But sometimes it seems that that is

A mere dream to which foolish poets cling.

Raise up your voices now and sing

you schoolchildren and you housewives,

you gardeners and makers of beautiful things,

you doctors and nurses

and lovers of ephemeral things

– only by our combined effort

can we finally drown the battle cries

of hate and greed

and the sad lament of worn-out creeds

“Let peace begin with me”

Make it a pledge;

And just like acorns grow into oak trees

Perhaps each little voice, each timid word

Uttered in the name of peace

Will swell into a roar too loud to be ignored.

“Let peace begin with me.”

  1. “Let peace begin with me.”

    Maryse,

It is so good to be reading these Willow/trini collabs.

The above quote is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

There are so many truths in timeless collaboration. I love the lyricism
of that first stanza and the power of the imagery.

“Perhaps each little voice, each timid word

Uttered in the name of peace

Will swell into a roar too loud to be ignored.”

    Absolutely beautiful!

“The world needs heroes who will

Stand fearlessly for what is right.”

And that so very true, so timely and so urgent!

  2. I first heard the hymn, “Let peace begin with me.” when my son was in grade school and the choir of children sang it. I wept like a cloud. For much of my life I have struggled to be compassionate everyday to everyone and being human I fail often. I will stand up for what is right and speak out. I believe that you are doing so now with this moving piece. Let it begin with all of us, each in his small corner of the world. Thank you for this.

  3. I loved reading this one, Sweet Maryse.

    I especially like these lines:

    “If man would only understand,
    peace begins in each heart.”

    Hugs to you.

  4. Thank you Ely… I love that hymn too and am so familiar with the struggle. 😏it was almost a mantra for our late Archbishop.

    Regards,

    Maryse
