When Poems Dance

092H

When poems dance,

a creative mind’s floor shakes.

Ooh la la!  Boom, bah boom!

Boom, boom!  Bah boom!

Listen to the rhythm of the words.

Words wildly swish – this way and that,

first over here, then over there,

Scat! Scat words, scat!

Like ABC’s in vegetable soup,

letters by themselves,

some in a group.

Ooh la la! Boom, bah boom!

Boom, boom! Bah boom!

Listen to the rhythm of the words.

Rhymes change; rhythms rearrange.

Moods adjust;  tempo’s tamed.

Words just sigh,

out of breath.

Ahhh, here’s a second wind,

got a hold of myself!

Get up, words!

Come on! Let’s dance!

Time to create

new-word romance,

never-used phrases,

brand-new rhymes.

You know you’re

havin’ a grand ol’ time!

Let’s go to a place

we’ve never been.

Get up, words!

Let’s do it again!

Listen to the rhythm of the words.

Ooh la la!

Boom, bah boom!

Boom, boom! Bah boom!

Listen to the rhythm of the words.

What’s that? What do you hear?

Your mind’s floor is what?

Shakin’, you say?

Ooh la la!

Boom, boom! Bah boom!

What a chance we’re taking

when poems dance today,

when poems dance today,

when poems dance today!

Yes Ma’am, Ms. Jan, your poem taps my toes, twinkles my eyes
and lights the sunshine at 11PM. Now that takes talent! I love
the beat, the joie de vivre, the buoyancy. Thank you!!!

I laughed at that, too – my posting this bouncy thing at 11PM! What’s up with that? It’s time to let all the words rest. It’s Zzzzzzz-time.

Hi Jan

There’s nothing like that exhilarating experience when “the words dance” and the poem takes you across the dance floor into its world. I can totally identify with the mood and feeling you convey in this wonderfully
upbeat poem. I hear the scat, the rhythms and the sheer joy of creativity in your voice. And I wake up each day as writer wondering ” What poems will dance today” and if they will dance?

Thank you for sharing
I really enjoyed this,
Wendy

Hi Wendy,
Thank you for spending time with When Poems Dance. This old poem reminds me how energetic our words can be when inspiration hits. Like you say it’s an exhilarating experience when it happens.
We know, too, that sometimes these words choose not to dance. That is to be respected as we work with words. We can’t force a poem to dance. 🙂

Francina,
I’m glad you enjoyed my poem. It is years old and has stayed in its original design through the years. I, as writer, wish to sometimes edit this one; however, this poem won’t let me. It’s pretty attached to its originality, & it’s set in its ways. Thanks for reading here.
