Under Old River Bridges

Under old river bridges
there live water witches,
when the wind is gone,
and the moon hangs high
in a velvet summer sky,
you might hear them giggle,
whisper, when they fulfill
children’s dreamy wishes.

Hi Francina

Oooh! I love this one and the idea of those “water witches” living under the bridge waiting to grant children their wishes. Reminds me of the tales my Slavic grandmother told about mermen and mermaids along the river tricking bargemen but granting wishes to small children. This is lyrical and it delights. Thank you for sharing it, I can feel the moon hanging high and dark velvet of night wrapping the earth in its spell.

much enjoyed!
