Astronomical Anomaly

for VKZ

Ivory, rose, cobalt,
The Northern Lights contest the stars;
The sky, replicating grass and blossoms
as if earth had become too promiscuous
for all except extinction… angels
long since gone to higher ground.

Sons born in Summer
seem stronger. That long season
of flowering no more than metaphor.
Earth also gives up her fruit…
in due time is reunited.
The axis is not fixed in space.

Precession
is the third discovered motion,
Light comes brightest
on the Summer solstice,
Someday we’ll celebrate
converging rays.

  1. Astronomical anomaly; Indeed we are, or at least, in our arrogance we believe it to be so. Perhaps it’s all simply a grand cosmic joke and we only actually exist in our imagination.

I’ll ask Willow when I see him, no doubt he’ll have an explanation; meantime, I’ll look forward to celebrating those converging rays. 🙂

  2. Douglas,

Thank you for making me smile (even though it is tinged with tears,)

The prose forum is still there and I have been stealing moments to read
    again those grand exchanges.

You have some great stuff in there, also some great interaction with Willow
that you might want to save…It’ll be there until Friday night when the clock
    strikes midnight.

So very glad to be interacting here with you and your poetry. Still looking
for the black cat and the white rose bush!!
